General : Five Labuan Traders Penalised Under Anti-profiteering Operation

LABUAN, Jan 29 (Bernama) — The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry has seized goods valued at RM11,379 and fined five traders under the ‘Ops Catut’ anti-profiteering operation launched on Jan 15.

The ministry’s acting director in Labuan, Aslani Dabi, said the traders had committed offences pertaining to displaying of price tags and related to weights and measures.

They were issued with compound fines of RM1,000, he told reporters today.

Aslani said the operation was launched to monitor the prices of essential goods and prevent traders from raising prices indiscriminately ahead of the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on April 1.

“The operation will continue and will be intensified, both in the urban and village areas, and encompass wholesalers, eateries, restaurateurs and other businesses,” he said.

‘Ops Catut’ was launched by Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek on Jan 15 to monitor the prices of goods and services nationwide ahead of the implementation of the GST.
