Its acting director, Aslani Dabi said the ministry was liaising with transporters and the supply chain comprising producers, distributors, importers, wholesalers and retailers in ensuring sufficient supply and no indiscriminate increase in the price of goods.
“At a meeting on Jan 12, the transporters and supply chain gave us an undertaking that there will be adequate supply of essential goods.
“Our past experiences have taught us a lot. We will not allow goods prices to be hoarded or manipulated, resulting in the instability of goods prices and supply,” he told BERNAMA in Labuan, Monday.
Aslani said consumers should not be unduly worried about the shortage as supply had reached more than 100 per cent as needed for the CNY celebration.
Meanwhile, Aslani said the nationwide ‘Ops Catut’ to combat profiteering among businesses, ahead of the Goods and Services Tax was carried out last week to monitor some 1,000 producers and distributors of goods.
