Affected people moving to the evacuation centreKUALA BERANG, Dec 15 (Bernama)– Twenty-one people were evacuated from Kampung Bukit Kolam in Hulu Terengganu, Monday following floods caused by heavy rain over the past two days.
They were moved to the Bukit Kolam relief centre at about 11 am when the floodwaters rose waist-high in the village, according to the villagers.
One of them, Salmah Awang, 56, said the floodwaters rose fast but they had moved much of their belongings to higher ground earlier.
“The authorities ordered us to evacuate because the level of the nearby river had breached the danger point,” she told BERNAMA.
Another villager, Wan Mariam Wan Mamat, 75, said that every time it rained heavily, the villagers would have difficulty getting to sleep for fear of the floods striking at any time.
