The Sarawak Women for Women Society (SWWS) is concerned that the percentage of teenage births in Sarawak that has risen to an alarming level of approximately 8.35 percent or 3,547 births out of 42,481 recorded in the state last year: http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/283058
“This is double that of the national level of four percent for births from teenagers who are in the region of 15 to 19 years old,” SWWS president Margaret Bedus said in a statement.
SWWS therefore reiterated its earlier call for the implementation of age-appropriate and holistic reproductive health and social education in secondary schools as a long-term solution to the matter.
