The two companies yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the project.
The empurau is a nearly extinct species, which is now found only in the upper reaches of the Rajang River in Kapit as it is still free from any form of contamination.
A kilogramme of empurau fish now fetches up to RM1,000 in restaurants, believed to be the most expensive fish in Malaysia.
Ronser Bio-Tech Sdn Bhd chairman, Woo Min Fong said MBS is a biological system patented by Ronser technical adviser, Professor Zhang Zhen Jia from Shanghai Jio Tong University (SJTU), and used to separate residual ammonia in water up to 1 one part per million (ppm).
He said the technology would be integrated with DLT Institute chairman Dr Ellie Luhat’s technology in empurau breeding to commercialise green aquaculture and agriculture developed by SJTU.
Woo said a new company known as Ronser DLT Sarawak Sdn Bhd would be established to develop the project and the waste water treatment technology developed by Rosner, especially in the palm oil mill effluent.
He said the development of the technology would also benefit the state’s oil palm industry.
Dr Elli has been successful in his efforts to breed empurau in a pond at the courtyard of his house in Taman BDC Stampin here.
