Business : Internet Solutions Predix A Boon To Malaysia’s O&G Sector, Says MIDA

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 (Bernama) — Predictivity (Predix) solutions offered by US industrial giant GE will benefit the Malaysian oil and gas (o&g) sector in meeting the region’s growing energy needs, Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) Deputy Chief Executive Officer Datuk Phang Ah Tong said.

He said the software platform solution introduced by GE (General Electric) would leverage the big data from machines and predictive analytics on the o&g sector.

It is expected to be made available next year, allowing users to create and deploy their own customised industry applications at speed and scale to better manage the performance of their assets.

“We hope that by adopting this solution it would help o&g sector to remain the biggest contributor in terms of investment in Malaysia followed by the chemical and electronic sectors,” he told reporters at the launch of Predictivity and official opening of the GE’s iCentre.

Phang said for the first seven months of 2014, MIDA approved 13 projects in the o&g sector with a total investment of RM15.4 billion, doubled from RM7.05 billion for 18 projects approved last year.

He said the main investments this year were derived from the Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex in Johor, comprising a refinery and a petrochemical integrated development complex.

At the event, GE also announced the opening of the GE iCentre here to complement the o&g ecosystem by providing impetus to attract other major oil and gas players to establish their presence here.

The GE iCentre here is fully integrated to GE’s two other centres in Florence, Italy and Houston, Texas.

“It will create a platform for 24/7 monitoring and diagnostics services for GE’s customers throughout the world, including Petronas.

“Such services will provide assurance and guarantee to GE’s customers of direct access to discipline experts during critical times,” Phang said.
