He said the federal government was currently in discussion with the Selangor state government to finalise the wordings of the agreement.
“It is no longer discussion on the strategy but wordings in the agreement to be agreed by all parties,” he told a media conference after officiating the ‘Partnership in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (Pemsea), Network of Local Governments 2014’ (PNLG) forum here Monday.
On Aug 1, the federal government and Selangor state government signed the ‘Heads Of Agreement’ on restructuring the water supply industry and paved the way for a long term solution to the water issue in Selangor.
Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Dr Maximus Ongkili had represented the federal government while Khalid signed on behalf of Selangor.
It was an extension of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both sides on Feb 26 to build the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant (LRAL2) and its distribution system.
In another development, Abdul Khalid said the forum was aimed at information sharing with interested parties in East Asian countries to sustainably develop and manage the region’s beaches and sea.
Selangor officially became a PNLG member on 2007 when the forum was held in Danang, Vietnam.
The participation was in line with the implementation of the Integrated Coastal Management) for Klang and Kuala Langat distrticts, better known as Port Klang ICM, which was followed by Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam last year.
