Zambry said the state’s target of a drug-free state by 2015 does not seem to be an easy objective to be achieved if the records and statistics involving arrests and trafficking cases reported throughout the year.
“I personally will not compromise such issues because such incidents will not only derail the aspiration of a drug-free state but will also affect our objective of becoming a developed state,” he said when answering a question from Datuk Sham Mat Sahat (BN-Alor Pongsu) at Dewan Undangan Negeri, here Tuesday.
He said the prevention of drugs would be a very difficult task because it involves elements of economy and social.
Zambry said 5,981 individuals have come under the National Anti-Drug Agency’s (AADK) observation from January to July 2014, compared with 7,145 for the same period last year.
“The statistics cannot guarantee the eradication of drugs at the grassroots level,” he said adding that drug prevention and awareness programmes would continue to be organised by the AADK, police and Village Security and development Committee.
Meanwhile, the Dewan was also told that the number of dengue cases in Perak had increased by 217 percent or 2,506 cases from January to August 2014 compared with the same period last year.
State Health committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said 3,567 cases were recorded this year compared with 1,151 cases for the same period last year.
“Until Aug 23, dengue has claimed eight victims compared with no deaths for the same period last year,” he said when answering a question from A. Sivanesan (DAP-Sungkai).
He added that a special committee, had been set up to monitor the situation.
