Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron named the schools as Sekolah Kebangsaan Pulai in the Jasin district and Sekolah Tinggi Perempuan Melaka and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tun Teja in the Melaka Tengah district.
“The flooded schools were closed as a safety measure in view of possible electrical short circuits,” he told reporters during a visit to Serkam here for a briefing on the flash floods.
Idris said the Jasin district was the worst affected by the floods, and involved about 3,000 people from 800 families.
Four flood relief centres were opened in the Jasin district, at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Sri Mahkota in Umbai, Sekolah Kebangsaan Datuk Haji Baginda, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Dang Anum and Sekolah Kebangsaan Sempang, he said.
“The centres were opened to coordinate relief aid and as a precautionary measure. No evacuation has been carried out yet,” he added.
Idris said the floods hit several areas in Melaka Tengah, including in Bukit Baru, Bukit Katil, Bukit Bayan, Bukit Pulau, Kampung Tanjung Minyak, Kandang, Solok Kemang, Pengkalan Renggam, Bukit Lintang, Paya Rumput and Kota Laksamana.
In the Alor Gajah district, the areas affected were Tanjung Bidara, Sungai Tuang, Lubok Cina and Paya Mengkuang as well as Masjid Tanah town, he said.
“We hope the residents of the affected areas will take heed of the instructions of the authorities to avert any undesirable incident,” he said.
