Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said this was to ensure solid waste management and public cleaning by the contractors concerned were carried out well to ensure a surrounding free of Aedes mosquito.
Besides working with the Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Ministry, he said the Health Ministry had also privatised the fogging activity, as well as distributed kits which could detect dengue virus to private doctors.
The staff at the ministry had also be increased to assist in activities to curb the spread of dengue, he added.
“The involvement of the general public is also crucial in helping the government to prevent the spread of dengue,” he told a media conference after launching a health programme for the 1Malaysia Indian Community at SJK(T) Taman Tun Aminah, Skudai here today.
Subramaniam said that a total of 57,953 dengue cases, with 120 deaths, had been reported in the country this year.
The ministry, he said, was also concerned with the increase in dengue cases in Selangor, which had so far recorded 17 deaths.
