The price of RON95 petrol is likely to stay at RM2.30 a litre until June next year, said Deputy Finance Minister Ahmad Maslan.

He said the petrol subsidy rationalisation exercise was unlikely until the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry implemented the targeted fuel subsidy mechanism in June 2015.

“The system is still under study. Until now, what I know of is that the system which is to be implemented will use the MyKad,” he told reporters after officially opening the National Tax Seminar in Kuala Lumpur today.

He said the system would be implemented next January for the subsidised diesel as recently announced by the ministry’s secretary-general recently.
