General : Zainal Rahim, New Mampu DG

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 5 (Bernama) — The Deputy Director-General of the Public Service Department (Operations), Datuk Seri Zainal Rahim Seman, has been appointed as the new Director-General of the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (MAMPU) effective Jan 9.

The Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa said in a statement Monday that Zainal Rahim, 57, succeeded Datuk Wira Omar Kaseh who went on mandatory retirement.

Zainal Rahim, who has more than 30 years’ experience in the civil service, has wide exposure in the fields of development, human resource management, state administration and land and regional management.

He was appointed as the Deputy Director-General of Public Service (Operations), Public Service Department (JPA) effective Jan 13 last year.

Other positions held by Zainal Rahim included as the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Human Resources; Penang State Secretary; President of the Penang Municipal Council; Principal Assistant Director, National Joint-Council Unit; Pensions Division, JPA, and Assistant Director, Organisation Management Division, Implementation Coordination Unit, Prime Minister’s Department.

Ali expressed confidence that Zainal Rahim’s qualifications, experience and credibility would enable him to lead and continue MAMPU’s excellence as the lead agency that was responsible for lifting the country’s competitiveness and performance in service delivery through the implementation initiatives in the modernisation of management organisation and the information and communication technology (ICT) in the civil service.

At the same time, Ali expressed his appreciation and gratitude to Omar for his more than 35 years’ contributon to the civil service.
