General : Sarawak Assembly Elects Lihan Jok As Senator For Another Term

KUCHING, Nov 11 (Bernama) — The Sarawak Legislative Assembly on Tuesday elected Datuk Lihan Jok as senator for another term beginning Dec 7 this year.

Lihan, a Kayan from Long Bedian, Ulu Sungai Apoh in Baram was first elected senator on Dec 7, 2011.

His name was proposed by Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang (BN-Layar) and seconded by Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing (BN-Baleh), who is also state Land Development Minister.

Lihan, 57, the former two-term Telang Usan assemblyman, from 2001-2011, was elected with a 53-14 vote against Thomas Sixtus Tegong Laka, a candidate proposed by the opposition.

Thomas was proposed by Chong Chieng Jen (DAP-Kota Sentosa) and seconded by Wong King Wei (DAP-Padungan).
