Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9 (Bernama) — The Education Ministry is coming up with the Malaysian Higher Education Sector Blueprint (PPPM-PT) 2015-2025 to give the national higher education system a quantum leap.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the blueprint will have 10 core thrusts, among others to produce graduates who are all-rounders, holistic and have the mind of an entrepreneur.

“It includes the provision of a robust action plan in order to address the challenges of the higher education sector to make Malaysia a global player and leading education hub at the international level.

“As with the national dialogue on the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013-2025 which we held in the past, the process of preparing the plan will take into account feedback, new ideas as well as the views of the public and stakeholders,” Muhyiddin, who is also Minister of Education, said when launching the PPPM-PT Dialogue 2015-2025 here today.

“I want to emphasise that this plan should be comprehensive whereby the private sector will not be spared as almost half of the students enrolled in the higher education ecosystem are pursuing various courses in private higher education institutions,” he said.

Muhyiddin said other thrusts proposed were career excellence and higher education talent nurturing, lifelong learning among society and tertiary education graduates of high quality.

“Six other thrusts are financial sustainability, strengthening governance, strengthening the ecosystem of innovation, a renowned (higher education) system globally, online learning globally and transforming the higher education system.

“I am confident that this way, it will ensure that the documents that will will be produced (via dialogues) will be inclusive, up to date in terms of current developments, realistic and most importantly can be implemented effectively,” he said.

He said what was important was that the final goal of the implementation of the blueprint later was producing human capital that can contribute to the rapid growth of the country taking into account sustainable development.

“Graduates should also be fluent in Bahasa Malaysia, English and preferably master a third language such as Mandarin as well as having higher order thinking skills. They must also have extensive knowledge and have a sense of belonging and identity as Malaysians,” he added.

He said that objective can be realised through concerted effort by the ministry and the support and cooperation of all strata of society so that Malaysia’s higher education system was among the best and respected on the world stage in the foreseeable future.
