Sport : MAS Appoint Australian Tennis Star Nick Kyrgios As Its Ambassador


KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 23 (Bernama) — Malaysia Airlines (MAS) has appointed Australian professional tennis star, Nick Kyrgios as its ambassador.

MAS Regional Senior Vice President, PK Lee said the collaboration between MAS and Kyrgios, whose mother is a Malaysian, “is a result of both parties sharing a common heritage, as well as desire to achieve excellence.”

“We are delighted to partner with him because he’s a world-class player with a level of passion and charisma that makes him universally admired. His breakthrough performance on the world tennis circuit moved us all this year and we’re determined to help him achieve his dreams in 2015 and move up further in the world rankings,” he said in a statement issued here, today.


The 19-year old Canberra native, has climbed from 183rd spot to 52nd in the world rankings after upsetting top world player Rafael Nadal during this year’s Wimbledon championship, beside reaching the third round of the US Open and winning three ATP Challenger titles.

On his appointment, Kyrgios who was born in Australia to a Greek father and Malaysian mother said he was honoured to be recognised by MAS while adding that Malaysia was very close to his heart.

“I’ve flown with MAS to visit my Malaysian family since I was a boy and extended family have always associated the airline with home. I feel privileged to become a friend of this airline because it will enable me to keep that important link with my family culture,” he added.
