Sport : BAM Must Appoint Frost Early To Resolve Problems Of Coaches – Kim Hock

PETALING JAYA, Jan 5 (Bernama) — The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) who appointed former All England champion Morten Frost Hansen from Denmark as its Technical Director effective March 1, must expedite his arrival to resolve the problems faced by coaches under the association.

Former National head coach Yap Kim Hock said Frost need to arrive or start work earlier because coaches have a big task to prepare the players for the 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

“Why wait until March to appoint him (Frost) because the Olympics is not far away and the contract of the coaches need to be finalised early so that they (coaches) can start preparing the players.

“Apart from the Olympics, there are immediate tasks at hand like preparing for the All England and SEA Games this year. They (BAM) should not delay the appointment,” he told reporters after the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between NPG Agency Sdn Bhd and the Klang Badminton Club, in Petaling Jaya, Monday.

Kim Hock represented the Klang Badminton Club as its coach while Datuk Norman Pang signed on behalf of NPG Agency.

The contracts of BAM coaches Rashid Sidek, Tey Seu Bock, Pang Cheh Chang and Rosman Razak which expired on Dec 31, have been extended until March to enable Frost to assess their performance before deciding their fate.

Frost who had served as BAM’s Coaching Director from 1997 to 2000 is expected to start his duties on March 1.

Meanwhile, through the MoU signed Monday, the NPG Agency would sponsor two import players who will join the club, namely Indonesian Simon Santoso and Singapore’s Derek Wong Zi Liang.

The duo will represent the Klang Badminton Club in the Kopiko Purple League which started on Nov 25 and would continue until Feb 1.

The league which offers RM2 million in prize money will feature 12 teams, comprising local and foreign players from Vietnam, Indonesia, England and Singapore.
