General : Release Of Chan Sai Chiun Demonstrates PDRM’s Integrity And Determination

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12 (Bernama) — The success of the police in releasing cage fish farming entreprenuer Chan Sai Chiun, 32, yesterday, demonstrates the integrity and determination of the security forces in saving kidnap victims.

In congratulating the Royal Malaysian Police Force (PDRM), Chairman of Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said the achievement also showed the credibility of the police in tracking and helping in Chan’s release.

“The police should be lauded for all their efforts in ensuring the successful release of the hostage. This shows they carried out their task efficiently and meticulously,” he told Bernama here today.

Commenting further on the release, he said the relationship between PDRM and the security forces of neighbouring countries in negotiating with the armed gang involved was the right step in the safe release of the hostage.

“Although the mission to rescue and bring home the hostage safely was very risky, the police discharged their duties well. The Philippines too extended their cooperation in securing Chan’s release,” he added.

Meanwhile, President of the United Anti-Crime Organisation of Malaysia Datuk Dr A. Balakrishnan said the safe release has proven the deep concern of the security forces in ensuring the safety of the people.

“The police are aware of the hardship and fear suffered by family members and relatives of the victim who had been kidnapped since June.

“So, it was with full determination that the police worked in resolving the case,” he said.

In this connection, the organisation is confident that the success in combating various criminal activities and resolving kidnapping cases would further improve the image of the security forces.

Yesterday, Chan, who was kidnapped in Sapang Air village, Kunak, Sabah, by a group of armed men from southern Philippines, was freed in Sabah.

The victim’s wife, Chin Pek Nyen, 42, from Ipoh, Perak had previously claimed that the kidnappers demanded a ransom of RM15 million, but the amount was eventually reduced to RM3 million.

Chan and his co-worker known only as Mazlan aged around 20 were kidnapped by two gunmen at a fish farming centre at midnight on June 16.
