General : NSC Proposes Act Stressing Enforcement In Disaster Management

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 (Bernama) — The National Security Council (NSC) today proposed that the government formulate an act that gives emphasis to enforcement in the management of disasters.

NSC deputy secretary (security management) Ogu Salim Omar said the Disaster Management Act would provide for better enforcement at the sites of disasters such as landslides or floods.

“We believe the act can enable us to find out the cause of the disaster and take the culprits to court,” he told Bernama.

He also said that the act would help to enhance the level of supervision at places prone to disasters.

“Although disasters such as landslides and floods are unexpected, they can be better managed if the enforcement authorities give serious attention to them,” he said.
