General : Malaysians Exude Meaning Of Independence By Ensuring Progress, Peace, Prosperity – TPM

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 (Bernama) — Deputy Prime Ministri Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said the duty of every Malaysians at present to exude the meaning of national independence is to ensure the country is developed, peaceful and prosperous.

He cited the contribution of academicians in producing high impact researches that became the catalyst for the country’s progress as part of it.

“In exuding the spirit of independence (in conjunction with the Independence Month this month), our struggles today may not be similar as the pre independence generation, who were willing to sacrifice their lives for their beloved motherland.

“I am sure our aim and dreams are the same, that is to see Malaysia stands tall as a sovereign and progressive country,” he said when launching the Universiti Malaya High Impact Research book here Thursday.

He said Malaysia’s target to becone a high income nation depended very much on the ability of everyone to undertake their duty and trust.

Muhyiddin also said universities as institutions of knowledge played a vital role in producing studies in various fields that could be utilised for the country’s development and people’s wefare.

He said Universiti Malaya, which had received an allocation of RM590 million from 2011 to 2015, needed to intensify its high impact research activities and produce multiple returns to the country.

“Hence it is very important that the planning and implementation of every research activity is done as soon as possible so that it can bring the best impact and optimises the use of all existing resources and avoid wastage,” he said.

Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, said research outcomes that were obtained today would give an impact to the progress of the country and people.

On Universiti Malaya’s high impact research, he said the research centre has various infrastructure and sophisticated equipment to facilitate the research work of researchers.

As such, he urged all researchers from public and private institutions of higher learning to utilise the high tech facilities available at the centre.

“Such sharing not only form wide network cooperation among researchers but also ensures there is no wastage of resources,” he said.

The contents of the High Impact Research book entitled ‘Touch Lives, Impacting Society’ included the research centre’s development, performance and achievement in conducting researches and studies in the various fields.

Also present were Education Ministry’s secretary general II Datuk Seri Dr Zaini Ujang and Universiti Malaya vice chancellor Datuk Dr Mohd Amin Jalaludin.
