General : Federal Government Allocates More Than RM1 Million For 166 Farmers In Tumpat

TUMPAT, Sept 24 (Bernama) — The federal government has allocated more than RM1 million to help 166 members of the Tumpat Area Farmers Organisation (PPK) to carry out business activities since two years ago.

Tumpat PPK general manager Tuan Mohd Ali Tuan Yusof said they included 50 members who received aid to venture into aqua-culture, tailoring and food catering business, as well as to open food stalls.

“They are now able to reap income of between RM1,000 and RM8,000 a month,” he told Bernama here today.

He said there were also 66 PPK members in Tumpat who received aid to start their birds’ nest business.

The assistance was provided by the government to help PPK farmers to increase their income by venturing into the business sector, he added.

The Election Commission has called for a by-election for the Pengkalan Kubor state constituency following the death of Barisan Nasional’s (BN) three-term assemblyman Datuk Noor Zahidi Omar on Aug 20, due to cancer.

The by-election will be a three-cornered fight between BN’s Mat Razi Mat Ail, 48, Wan Rosdi Wan Ibrahim, 56, of PAS and independent Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary, 47.

Noor Zahidi had retained the seat in the general election held last year with a majority of 1,736 votes, beating Saharun Ibrahim of PKR and Izat Bukhary.
