General : Eight Kampungs In Kudat Hit By Floods

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 (Bernama) — With Perak, Johor, Kelantan and Pahang still reeling from the floods that hit the peninsula states, now Kudat in Sabah has also been hit following incessant heavy rain overnight.

Kudat district officer Sabdin Ibrahim when contacted by Bernama said eight villages were affected among them Kampung Gumpa, Kampung Bak-Bak, Kampung Korina and also Kudat town.

He said Jalan Kampung Tamalang to Kampung Sikuati was also inundated and only passable to four-wheel drive and heavy vehicles.

However, he said no victims had been evacuated yet because the water level was not high.

In PERAK, the number of evacuees has dropped further, with 1,940 people from 536 families still at 11 relief centres as compared to 1,948 from 538 families in the morning.

A National Security Council (MKN) spokesman said Perak Tengah still had 1,620 evacuees, Hilir Perak (210), Manjung (76) and Hulu Perak (34).

In JOHOR, only one family of five still remained at the Balai Raya Kampung Spang Loi, Mukim Buloh Kasapin, Segamat as compared to 18 people from four families in the morning.

In KELANTAN, an MKN spokesman said there were now only 1,415 evacuees from 343 families at 21 relief centres as compared to 1,525 people form 368 families in the morning.

Machang still has 30 evacuees, Kuala Krai (878), Gua Musang (414) and Tanah Merah (93).

In PAHANG, a Pahang police headquarters flood operations room spokesman said 981 evacuees still remained at three shelters in Temerloh.
