General : Dungun Becomes Latest District Affected By Floods In Terengganu

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17 (Bernama) — The flood situation in three states in Peninsular Malaysia saw Dungun becoming the latest district to be affected in Terengganu, while the number of flood victims in Kelantan increased compared to in the morning but there was no increase in the number of victims in Pahang.

In KUALA TERENGGANU, acting Secretary of the National Security Council (NSC) for Terengganu, Roslina Ngah said three new evacuation centres were opened involving 311 victims from 92 families.

“As at noon today, there were 805 victims and Dungun was recorded as the latest district affected when three evacuation centres were opened,” she told BERNAMA, Kuala Lumpur, Wednesday.

Meanwhile, two evacuation centres in Kemaman, that is the Balai Raya Padang Kubu and the Rumah Pegawai Padang Kubu, which were closed at 11am Tuesday, were reopened together with another evacuation centre, namely the Rumah Pegawai Sungai Mas, which had to be opened as 11 victims from four families were affected when water in the river in the area had overflowed.

Roslina said as of now, 16 evacuation centres in four districts were still open namely Kemaman with 10 evacuation centres, Dungun (3), Marang (2) and Kuala Terengganu (1).

In KOTA BAHARU, the Kelantan government’s flood portal said the number of victims in the state rose to 898 people at noon compared with 526 victims in the morning.

All the victims were placed in 19 evacuation centres in four districts, namely Jeli, Pasir Mas, Pasir Puteh and Tanah Merah.

In the district of Jeli, 605 victims were placed at nine relief centres namely Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Ayer Lanas, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Jeli 1, SK Legeh, SMK Batu Melintang, SK Kalai, SK Kuala Balah, Masjid Gemang, Dewan Kesedar/PASTI Bukit Lakota, and PASTI Kampung Sungai Satan/Tadika Gemang.

In the district of Tanah Merah 188 victims were placed at eight evacuation centres namely the Madrasah Kampung Renat, Madrasah Kampung Rahmat, Dewan Desa Taqwa, SK Kulim, Madrasah Kampung Kulim, Madrasah Bendang Besar, Madrasah Kampung Banggol Yek and Balai Raya Kampung Padang Kijang.

Meanwhile in the district of Pasir Puteh, there were 22 victims seeking shelter at SK Wakaf Raja, while in the district of Pasir Mas 84 victims were placed at the Madrasah Haji Daud.

As at noon, the water level in two rivers had exceeded the danger level namely the Sungai Golok at Jenob in Tanah Merah which recorded a reading of 24.88 meters (danger level 23.50) while the level in Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang was 9.02 meters (danger level 9 meters).

Two roads were closed namely at KM12 Jalan Chiku-Aring, Gua Musang for all vehicles while the stretch at KM31 Jalan Kota Baharu-Kuala Terengganu in Pasir Puteh was closed to light vehicles only.

The weather condition is cloudy with intermittent rain.
