General : Datuk Zulkefli Salleh Appointed BERNAMA General Manager


KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 9 (Bernama) — Datuk Zulkefli Salleh has been appointed general manager of the Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA) while his deputy, Datuk Zakaria Abdul Wahab, replaces him as editor-in-chief effective Tuesday.

The appointments were announced by BERNAMA chairman Datuk Abdul Rahman Sulaiman after a meeting of the Board of Governors, in Kuala Lumpur.

Abdul Rahman said the appointment of Zulkefli, 57, was to replace Datuk Yong Soo Heong who retired in October.

Deputy editor-in-chief of Audio Visual Service, Mokhtar Hussain was promoted to deputy editor-in-chief of Domestic News Service, replacing Zakaria.

Meanwhile, acting deputy editor-in-chief of Economic News Service, Mikhail Raj Abdullah was confirmed to the post.

Commenting on the appointments, Abdul Rahman hoped the new management would inject greater momentum into the national news agency to upgrade performance and excellence.

“I hope they can bring BERNAMA into the media transformation era and make it as a top national news agency.

“I also hope BERNAMA can play a more important role in explaining and providing information to the public, especially with Malaysia’s position as the chairman of ASEAN and implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in April next year,” he said.
