General : Bangladesh PM Accorded Official Welcome

PUTRAJAYA, Dec 3 (Bernama) — Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who arrived Tuesday on a three-day visit to Malaysia, was accorded an official welcome Wednesday at the lobby of the Prime Minister’s Department at the Perdana Putra Building here.

The welcome ceremony was held at the lobby because of rain.

Sheikh Hasina was greeted by Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak upon her arrival there at 2.55 pm, and the national anthems of the two countries were played.

Sheikh Hasina then inspected a guard-of-honour mounted by 99 officers and men from the 1st Battalion Royal Malay Regiment.

Several Cabinet ministers, foreign diplomats and senior government officials also attended the ceremony.

After the welcome ceremony, Sheikh Hasina and Najib attended a four-eyed meeting followed by a delegation meeting that discussed the existing bilateral relations and cooperation as well as identified potential areas for future collaboration.

Sheikh Hasina and Najib are expected to witness the signing of several agreements and memorandums of understanding between the two countries.

Najib and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, are scheduled to host a dinner in honour of Sheikh Hasina and her delegation at Seri Perdana, the prime minister’s official residence.

Sheikh Hasina’s visit is at the invitation of Najib and to reciprocate Najib’s visit to Dhaka in November last year.

It is Sheikh Hasina’s second visit to Malaysia, the first being in 2010 when she attended the 6th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) in Kuala Lumpur.
