General : Arafah Day On Oct 3, Aidiladha On Oct 4

From Hafizah Kamaruddin

MAKKAH, Sept 25 (Bernama) — This year, Arafah Day, also known as Wukuf, which is the peak of the Haj pilgrimage, will be on Oct 3 and Aidiladha the following day, as announced by Saudi Arabia’s Supreme Court.

Arab News online portal www.arabnews.com reported that the announcement was made by the Supreme Court after several people sighted the new Zulhijjah crescent moon on Wednesday.

The Supreme Court also announced that Thursday would be the first day of Zulhijjah.

The Day of Arafah this year will see the gathering of more than two million pilgrims, including 22,320 from Malaysia, on the vast plain of Arafah to pray and supplicate, which is an essential part of the Haj.

Arafah is about 22 kilometres from Makkah.

It is said that who ever misses standing on the hillside and plain of Arafah has missed the Haj, based on the pronouncement by Prophet Muhammad that “Haj is Arafah”.

It was also from this site that Prophet Muhammad gave his famous Farewell Sermon in his final year of life, and the place where Adam and Eve met after being taken out of Jannah (eternal place) and placed on Earth.

Meanwhile, 93.89 per cent or 20,957 of the Malaysian pilgrims for this Haj season have arrived in the Holy Land.

Today, one flight (KT60) arrived at the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah at 5.30am local time (10.30am Malaysian time) with 448 pilgrims. The last Haj flight from Malaysia is expected to arrive this Saturday.
