SEPANG, Jan 21 (Bernama) — Malaysia Airlines announced that the Softcopy General Declaration (GD) System, initiated at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in June 2014 in collaboration with the Malaysia Immigration Department, is operational as of 1 January 2015.

To streamline the process, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) has provided the infra structure to support and install immigration crew counters at KLIA with the Softcopy GD system to move towards a paperless solution, MAS said in a statement, Tuesday.

The Softcopy GD facilitates quicker immigration clearance procedure for MAS crew that are rostered, including those called up for immediate flight assignments, Malaysia Airlines’ Director of Operations, Captain Izham Ismail said in the statement.

The national carrier is the first to implement this paperless system to improve immigration clearance procedures for the airline’s crew at KLIA. The Softcopy GD System is another milestone achievement for both KLIA Immigration and MAS in terms of service delivery efficiency, KLIA Immigration Director, Datuk Mohd Zulfikar Ahmad, said.

The Malaysian Immigration Department will be implementing this facility across Malaysian airports nationwide as well as to other carriers operating in and out of KL International Airport in the near future.
